Default 450R finds the rev limiter

I am starting to hit the rev limiter on my 13T HRC 450R. What do you suggest for a fix? Aftermarket ignition or taller gearing. I sure love the 13T sprocket. This thing likes to rev now and I hate to put too much gear in it and take away from the quick powerband. Has anyone put an ignition on one yet? What is the rev limiter set at now? Can the motor take more revs?

I've got a 13 on mine. I am going to put a 37 on the back and speed it up just a fuzz.

I've seen dyno runs that show 9200 and 9400 as max revs. Right now Sparks is the only people making an aftermarket CDI for the 450R that I know of. It cost 799 and you have to get rid of your headlights and replace the flywheel.

Ouch!!! I can see the flywheel for faster revving and reduced rotating mass, but why get rid of the headlights??

Right now there isn't a new plug in cdi for the R. Sparks builds the engine for Tim Farrs bike so I would imagine since he runs the quad tech hood and didn't need lights he eliminated the connection going to the lighting coil.

I hope someone gets a plug in cdi made up soon because I don't want to ditch my headlight.

Not only that, but losing flywheel weight might be a bad thing with this motor. Myself,I'd like to have a heavier flywheel for the tight stuff.....

If you plan on only riding in the woods then this mod is not for you. Call and ask the tech support and they will tell you it's for serious racers only.

Probably not for me as I'm more of a hill climber/trail rider.

Depending on where and how you ride, you can hit the limiter with a 14t. I have a 13t on mine and I love it in the woods. Had a 14t when I went to the dunes and hit the limiter in 5th on the drag strip in Florence. WOW this thing flies. Felt like I was doing about 80. Did wish I had a 13t at the dunes for comp. hill. Would have made it just a little quicker.

Lightening the flywheel is only going to make it rev faster(which I think is a great advantage)....and the rotating mass equals something like 1lb rotating is = to about 8lbs dead weight?? So that can make a pretty big difference too....it is probably only a mod for a serious racer though
