A lesson learned...quad riders please read.

What a load of $%#@ You can quite safely ride with two people on a utility quad like my Big Bear 350 it would be a bit stupid otherwise 'Hey honey you can walk the 2 miles over our farm OK I will ride' yeah right. I can go any where with my girl on the back that I can go myself quite easily

Same thing here, I would rather wear a helmet and eye protection when I am riding. I usually ride on tight/muddy trails with my friends, and without a helmet I would get constantly hit in the head with branches, have your hair full of mud, and my eyes full of bugs and debris. I haven't had any major wrecks yet, but with my driving style I probably will sometime. And when I do get in a bad wreck I don't want my friends to have to clean my brains off of the trail.

I agree with 250rampage. I always wear my helmet too. There is not much of a chance of me crashing at speed as I rarely go above 20 Kph. Sometimes I ride 3 kilometers in 3 hours (whole other story, check out the Ride story in Polaris Forum for details), but I need my helmet to protect from the elements. Just like rampage says. It's a matter of comfort for me. I am just not comfortable without the helmet on.

I will certainly not debate the wisdom of wearing a helmet (though I usually don't), but I think riding double on an ATV can be done safely. Just like everything else, use your brain and ride according to conditions. Stay on the flat trails at low speeds. The way I judge it is if it's at all tricky with a single rider, then there's no way I'm doing it with a passenger. The warnings in the manuals and on the stickers are to prevent law-suits, but the reason they're plastered all over a new ATV is because people either died or were seriously injured doing it. Don't be next.

Imagine a world where no one goes unless some one proceeded them...
Your accident was NOT caused by stupidity ..rather inexperence....
Lawyers and lidigation are the determining forces behind the "no passenger" Laws..
Our sport ..like many others is Dangerous...and each participant must KNOW the dangers and ride in a safe manner...to his/her abilities ..I and many others would prefure the government NOT telling us what our limits are.
What I like and dislike should not really matter ..it should be up to the individual .
NO one can make a set of rules governing everyone in all parts of the country..the only way to do so is to Limit or Ban our activites in the name of enviromental and saftey concerns..this is OUR real Danger..
Ride Save ..Ride hard ..and NEVER feel quilty going where no one has gone before!!!

The reason that the term "idiot" is, and was, applied, is because the riders that ride double do not see the CONSTANT inherent danger that riding double poses to the operator AND the passenger. Can't you not see that?! Are you that blind?
You never really know what is going to happen when riding double. If you only had to control and calculate for the machine and yourself, that is one thing. But, you also have another person, with a mind of their own, that is on the machine with you. Center of gravity? higher. Where will they put theirs? who knows, depends on the person and the situation. It is a variable that can never be fully predicted no matter what.
Argue on, ignorance... tally ho, pride... ride on, get hurt, and the people with brains won't care. But overbearing big brother will.

No need to wear a helmet in a car because you have alot of metal around you... duhhh...
I see acts of God daily; among them have been people crawling along at 5mph on their 4x4 quad up a hill, and an unexpected loss of balance resulting in a small fall. But you know what? That small fall cost him 14 stitches. Wouldn't have happened if he had a helmet on his noggin. Common sense isn't a common commodity.
I don't have a five-point harness in my car, but I have a four-point harness in my airplane. Does that count???
Like Honda says, Stupid Hurts. (Not just you, but those around you, too)
