'01 400ex -- NO SPARK
I had the bike in storage for about a year (Sad, isn't it?)..
It was on blocks, fresh oil, gas drained. There was no power in the storage unit, so I couldn't tend the battery.
I got it out of storage on Friday, replaced the battery with a new one, just because.
I put in new gas and tried to fire it up. It tries to go but won't start. Did all the 'normal' trouble shooting and found that there was no spark.
Changed out the Ignition Control Module with my neighbors old one (he put in a White Bros ICM) and still no spark.
Unfortunately the owners manual is in storage (someplace) and I don't have any diagrams for the electrical system.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Joe

check all wieres. i've seen many people bring wheelers in with electrical problems that have been chewed on by mice. only way honda wants you to test the ingnition coil is by peak voltage. that tester is about 150 200 dollars. then ya need a multi meeter on top of that.(my mack was 375). thats too muchh for you to get involved. also, this is a strech, check the pin fittings on harness side of cdi. diolectric greece is never a bad idea.

Thanks for the info. I just finished checking every inch of the harness, unplugging and cleaning every connector. Still no spark.
It has to be something simple, unless the coil itself is bad, I think I have replaced/cleaned/checked everything in the ignition system.
I am at a loss and would hate to have to take it into the shop and wait three weeks / pay $300 or whatever to get it back.
Waiting for a schematic of the electrical system, maybe that will shed some light!
Thanks again!

The only fuse I found was the 15A fuse near the battery.
I am planning on going through the harness again tonight after work, I found my multimeter in storage last night, I am going to check for voltages all the way through. It has to be something I am overlooking.
Thanks!

Thanks for the help!! I found the problem. Looked through the schematics of the electrical system, started at the battery and checked everything. I found that the Kill Switch was shorted. Once I got that fixed, she started right up. Spent the day in the High Desert yesterday!! Again, Thanks for the help and ideas
