i think what 300exriderjay was talking about when he said that it shoots the gas in was the accelorator pump that 300 and 400ex carbs have. its a little pump that gives the engine a nice little squirt of gas everytime the throttle is opened all the way.

Guys, seriously here, relocating the overflow is just asking for trouble...there's a reason the overflow is there! You need to fix the problem, not band-aid it. The problem is the float setting. Set correctly, you should be able to ride wheelies all day long without it overflowing, and no risk of flooding the engine.
This is easier than rejetting...all you have to do is bend the floats down just a hair. This will cause the float to shut off the gas that much lower in the bowl, and once set corretly, prevent overflow.
And yes, most carbs have an accelerator pump, but you only get a "squirt" of fuel when you pump the throttle... If you are ballanced in your wheelie, your throttle possition shouldn't change enough to cause fuel to overflow.

Me too, I'm just saying, the accelerator pump isn't what's causing your problem, it's the float. Even if you were constantly romping on the throttle, the worst thing that would happen is that you'd kill the engine from being too rich...the fuel that the accelerator pump sprays out is atomized, not a solid dump of fuel.

I know all of you are going to hate me for this but I put a small screw in the overflow tube to not tottaly plug it but slow it down enough to where it is just a drop or two every now and then. It has worked perfectly for me, the only change is it will flood out a little quicker on steep hills w/out any throttel but will perk right up w/ some gas. I decided to do it after waisting almost an entire tank of gas after only one day of wheelies!!! The hose has been pluged for over a year and nothing bad has happened yet.
But this is only my setup I am not saying it will work for everyone or is what you should do but it works for me.

Dan250race, I liked your post. It has good ideas and what to look out for. As for the oil pickup I was talking about 4 stroke's not 2. I wasn't sure what ATV Trevor was on. Having been the mechanic at a local shop that repaired all brand atv's and cycles I have rebuilt most all the more common motors of all the major brands.
