rubicon tires
#1
Recently bought a rubicon and had the dealer put on some 589's. He sold me 27 x 11 x11 tires and said they were not to big. I rode it through some thick mud and they seem to be good but I was wondering if you honda owners think that they are to big and heavy.I'm not using the rubi for mudding just hunting, but a lot of our trails are muddy.
thanks for any input, Dave

I've got a 2003 Rubicon with 28" 589's. It was sluggish in the heavy mud until I installed a K&N power kit. No problem spinning them now, even with the wife riding shotgun. For the type of riding you're describing, your Rubicon should have no problem at all.

A friend and I bought tires at the same time. He went with the 589s, I went with radials. I must say that the 589s feel like they're filled with concrete. Awesome traction, but they dig too much for deep snow and they really make his Rubicon ride like crap next to mine. It is that noticeable. The pre-05 Rubicon doesn't ride that soft to begin with.....
I think for most riders the 589s are an overkill.
He is looking to sell the 26" 589s + black C series. Anyone interested? They look like new, and have less than 100 miles on them. Pictures on my page.
