Should I buy a 250x for $1800. It has DG exaust and 4 new tires. The front wheel bearings are shot, A-arm bushings, maybe axle bearings, air filter rotted, (the owner probably never even took the seat off.) and steering bushing.
Is it worth it. I may be able to get him down if I tell him it needs $300 worth of replacments.

Last year I paid $1200 for an 87 250X. It was stock except for a supertrap pipe, it even had original tires and handlebars. I sold it a year later for $1200 and it was in great condition. I wouldn't pay more than $1000-$1200 for it. The prices of seals and bearings add up fast!

I agree, let this one pass. The 250X is a great bike, but the parts add up fast. Also, plan on finding many more parts that need replacement when you start working on it. This owner sounds like he doesn't know anything about maintenance (probably never changed oil or adjusted the valves) and if you need head, valve or cam work done, it will be very expensive. I just bought a 92 250X last month for $1500 in excellent condition. Replaced the swing arm bearings, all brake pads, one tie rod end, axle bearings and seals, plus a few misc items. I get a good discount at my Honda dealer, and I still had nearly $200 worth of stuff. Start adding cables, brake discs(expensive) and chain & cogs, and you can be at $500 real fast!! There are better deals out there. Good luck

NO
U can tell he didnt take care of it. If the air filter is rotted that means the carb and top end could be screwed from dirt and other thing and probaly parts of the air filter. When i bought my 87 x. I checked the oils i.e brake and engine. > just ware from sun inst bad its 13 year old bike. i would pass completely. on this its not worht the troble or th e money.when looking for the bike look check the oil and grease and how well it is lubed. that cna tell u how wlel someone took care of it. my plastic was faded and sratched. but i knew the bike was mechanically sound and thats what matters
