Default 250ex vs 300ex

not sure which to get. im used to my scrambler its just to heavy for what i want to do. i just want something i can zing through tight trails with and is pretty light. i kinda like the 400ex to its just to expensive even a used one. i was leaning towards the 250ex cuz my friend has a recon and i really like it and i think a 250ex would be wicked fun even though its slow. but then 300ex isnt much more expensive and its alot quicker. in a drag how much of a difference would there be between the 300 and 250. and if i dragged my friends recon w/ the 250 would i smoke him? i really think the 250ex would be fine i like the shaft drive and how simple they are.

i don't think the 300ex is all that much faster than the 250ex, its just got a clutch.....and that 250ex is not a slow machine, especially through trails. with the right tires, you should be able to easily keep up with, if not pass, anyone riding a utility machine (on the trails). if your lazy, get the 250ex, if you like to work your hand, get the 300ex. they really are a great deal....what 3500?? theyre a blast to ride.

i have a 300 and rode a 250, i didnt like it at all, the 300 would definately beat it in a drag race but they both top out at similar speeds, just the 300 has faster acceleration and better handling, your choice

the handleing is almost the same, the 300 just has better suspension. but the 250ex is also lighter so u can throw it around the tight turns in the trails. there both great machines but if your doing trails and have a tight budget the 250ex is a great starter quad

You can put a lot of mods on the 300 and you can't on the 250.

The 250 is an entry level bike. It was derived from the Recon, and the limited suspension shows its utility heritage. It does have shaft drive, which is good if you ride in the mud a lot. The autoclutch is less effitient than a full manual clutch.

The 300 is a low end true sport bike. It has pretty good suspension, and is faster than the 250. The engine mods up well, when you want more power. I prefer a fully manual (hand) clutch, for everything except slow technical riding.

Both bikes are easy to maintain, and bulletproof.

I have a 300EX and my little brother has a 250EX. I prefer the 300EX for anything other than slow trail riding, anything over 15 mph, I much prefer the 300EX. The suspension on the 250EX is just to harsh and really the stock tires on the 250 do more than the suspension it seems like. For jumping, the 250 is more maneuverable in the air because its lighter, though the front end likes to go up at times, due to it having a very light front end and heavy rear end, where as the 300 doesnt feel quite as flickable, but almost always stays level, and the landing is definately better on the 300.
