Honda recon problems
#1
I will never recommend anyone else to buy the honda recon, i have two 2004 recons and after only 6 months of use it threw a piston rod and i don't know if my warranty will cover it because the handlebars are bent and the back rack is bent from rolling it backward down a hill after i was trying to ride a wheelie up the hill. If the dealer does not cover my engine i will be really mad about it and probably drive it right through the front window of the dealership.
Another thing is that the engine still has all of the power it had before. i locked the brakes on my big bear and the recon pulled it like nothing. it makes me wonder if it is a piston rod or if it just broke a timing chain

I don't understand why you think the dealer should provide warranty work on a machine that has been abused. If you're willing to try dangerous stunts with a new $3,500 machine then you should pay for the damages.

the engine of this machine hasn't been abused in any way that most atvs haven't been and i'm really trying to get someone to tell me what to do instead of critisizing. the engine hardly has 50 hours on it and oil has been changed with honda 4 stroke every 20 hours after the break in

Sorry about your quad its a bummer when it breaks. I work for a Honda Suzuki dealership here in Alberta and its not the dealership that sets the warranty time its Honda them selves. If your quad was looking brand new your dealership might try and get you warranty anyway and hope the powers to be will agree. If your quad is bent and banged up the dealer has to tell Honda that as well and in most cases the dealership has to send pictures of the unit in question,
I know that sucks but thats the way Honda wants it done, Good luck with you problems I would just like you to know that Honda puts out a good product and stand behind it as far as they can

Recons have pushrods, no timing chain.
Sounds like the Recon is running normal but I would start worrying now about flat spotting the tires now on the big bear dragging it all around.

it makes a really loud clanking sound when you start the engine and it gets louder when you give it gas, one of my friends said it may be about to throw the rod and i mean it is really loud and it is not normal at all.
i changed the oil a month ago at the same time i got new tires for it because i didn't like the stocks and i have put nothing but honda 4stroke oil in the engine
i really don't know what it could be if its not the piston rod
