400ex wheels hard to get off...
Hello everyone, I am asking this question for my brother who owns a 2004 Yellow Honda 400 EX. I am wondering if anyone else has a problem getting their wheels to come off? We have to beat them off with a hammer every time we switch from his sand tires to his regular tires. I dont think it should be that hard to get them off and was wondering if anyone knows a fix for this problem? Thanks for any input.

No they should not be that hard, make sure you clean out your hub splines and the splines on the axle. Best stuff to use is brake cleaner. Alot of people make the mistake of greasing the splines thinking this will make them easier to get on and off, just the opposite, the grease collects dirt and sand and thus making the problem you currently are seeing.

These are aftermarket rims, like ITP or Douglass, right??? You absolutely must RUN WASHERS under tha lug nuts, and TURN THE LUG NUTS UPSIDE DOWN (tapered end out). The lug nut smashes the soft aluminum of the wheel, and makes the hole smaller, every time you tighten the lug nuts. If you keep it up, you will ruin the rims pretty quick!
If this is the stock rims, I don't understand how you could have a problem??? Those holes are huge, and meant to fit the tapered end of the lug nut.

Yes use washers if using the stock lug nuts. If you do not turn them with taper out it will smash the rim hole and squish into the lugs and then it will not come off. When you take the wheels off check your bolts to make sure you did not push the thread in.
I had this problem also from my skats with douglas wheels.
