2001 Forman Rubicon, clutch I think??
#1
I know that Honda is got the best tranny but mine broke .Has anyone had this happen ?? When I put my mchine in gear it makes a grinding or a thunk thunk sound ..
I jacked it up and the wheels will spin and automatic tranny works in push button mode and automatic mode but when you put it back down it does the same.
When its in nutral it sounds like there is a little friction draging rpm down and a little grinding .. not like normal.
I pulled motor and pulled sub tranny cover andgears and everytning looks like new.
Then i pulled off the front clutch cover and the only thing I can see wrong is that on the clutch basket there is a burnt looking ring arround the basket about 1\2" all the way arround some aeras are burnt more than others...This is where Im at, waiting for special puller for clutch..
I hope this is it ...
Im pretty sure thats it but have never seen this before Please respond if you know anything about my problem.. Thanks Tracy..

I had a similar problem with my 01 rubicon and I had to have the tranny replaced. The dealer that I bought it from said that the 01 had a defect in the transmission and he has replaced 10 or 15 because of a bad bearing. When i took my clutch off i had the same burn marks on it and the dealer said it was from working the bike, like hauling heavy loads or dragging things. neither of the two problems were related.check the part # out on a new transmission, They changed it after 01 because of the problem with the bearing. I had about 5000 miles on mine when it went.

I baught my quad in canada, I had to call honda canada my self but with alot of discussion I finally got them to cover the hole thing. They replaced tranny, oil pump, rings and all gaskets. I only had to pay for the oil and filter. The dealer I got it from was really helpful when dealing with honda.

The dealer called them and then th edealer gave me the number, I think it was customer service. I talked to the gent on the phone and told him what I thaught he should do. He called back the dealer and worked out the details. You need to have the dealer pulling for you or It probably won't work. GOOD LUCK!!
