Not sure if '05 400ex will have reverse. But yes, a 400ex is that much better than a Raptor 350. If you JUST HAVE TO HAVE reverse go to either a 300EX of a Z400. Either won will still handle that pants off a Raptor 350.

The only problems I have had with mine I had to replace the axle bearings, and change the spark plug and I went through a set of tires..

my battery died once.......................change oil and filter, keep your airfilter clean, keep new clean plugs in it and they will run forever. I have seen though that if you jump them too high, they can bottom out and blow shock seals, but it has to be a sick jump with a flat landing. But the same thing happens on anyother quad I have ridden. Technically speaking, quads aren't meant to be ramped like bikes. Just my opinion. My brother will take the 80' double pass/fail at Loretta Lynns on his CRF450R, but he won't jump my little 400EX.
My riding buddy, lost his doing a wheelie at like 50, (no BS) and when he let go of the 400 it did like 3 or 4 cartwheels till it came to a stop. It bent his a-arm and that was it. We heated it with torches, straightened it, put it back on and he continued to ride for the rest of the day. He then proceeded to lose it at the mid-point of about a 200' hill and it topled God knows how many times, and finally came to rest on his chest plate. It had dirt/sand in the handle grips and that was it. I fired it up and rode it back to the truck for him, as his day was obviously over. I am amazed at how durable they really are.
