Two popular machines butted heads this weekend and it was all fun.

We covered the usual areas, mud, hills, drag racing on hard pack, water and even a pull-off on pavement. The winner? I don't think there is one. Both machines performed well in all areas. The 450 was a better hill climber except on loose surface.(probably being a lighter machine made the Honda more nimble here). Racing produced no clear cut winner. Out of 5 runs each had 2 with the Polaris taking the last by a wisker. The 450 was a better deep water machine. The 425 ran very ragged for a half hour after. In the mud it was no contest. The Expedition's 4wd was far superior to the limited slip of the 450. (each machine was completely stock with stock tires). The pavement pull off seemed to produce even results, but when the machines started butting against the chain the Honda's lighter front end left the ground and the Polaris drove away with it.

So there you have it. Two of the top quads on the market today. No one came away a clear winner(or loser) but we sure did have fun!!

Is the Honda 450es, considered honda's top atv then? I have never rode with one yet.

I saw an article in i think its septembers atv action magazine, or is the magazine called 4-wheel action magazine? One or the other, that said that the xpedition could be polaris's best atv yet. They were just testing it in the article and not judging it against any other atv. people that like
automatics, will never buy the 5-speed. I like shifting, so i'm not sorry I bought the expedition 425. I wish I had waited a few more months though as the first model had a few bad parts that had to be weeded out.

The 450ES was Honda top of the line model. Now, with the introduction of the Rubicon, it is runner up in the line up. The 450 is still a favorite of MANY atvers. Very strong, reliable machine.

Good post. These are the kind I like to read. The way it was written doesn't show any bias.

I read an article on the expedition & its said the auto clutch & transmission was the smoothest in the industry. That sounds pretty sweet.

Does sound like fun. Hurry up weekend I want to go riding.
