My front shocks on my 400EX have gotten soft. They seem to bottom off of smaller jumps now. Do you have any suggestions? Is there anyway to fix this by just adjusting the shocks? If not, I thought maybe I could get some stiffer springs, or possibly different shocks. What do you think I should do? PLEASE HELP. Thanks in advance.

If you don't want to drop the cash for new shocks there are a couple of things you can do:
1. After every ride, take off all three shocks and store in them in the freezer. Before every ride re-install the shocks. The frozen metal will not be as pliable as metal at room temperature.
2. If you have shockwares you can fill them with ice cubes. This will also keep the metal in your shocks at, or near 0 degrees celcius, making them stiffer.

Does anybody have any other ideas on what to do with replacing the springs?

Whatever you do, fix this problem at once because Kentucky girls like their boys WELL-SPRUNG!

P.S...........Who's Kaiser Sosei?

The preload hasn't been lightened to my knowledge. What do you think I should do? Adjust it? Thanks.

Try cranking the preload adjuster from position 4 to position 5. I have Works shocks and I love them. I can't imagine how PEP or the others could be any if at all better. I had to send them back once though.

Stock front shocks for the 400ex dont have cans thus the only adjusting you can do is spin that deal on the bot of your shock to the highest notch causing your spring to tighten up(not loosen down!!) this will tighten up your shocks significantly and you will now be satisfied. If they don't get better than you have to throw them away because they are not rebuildable. You might be able to get new harder springs if that will help. im running stock shocks completely stiffend on my 440ex w/ +3 a-arms and i don't bottom out even after a 35-45 foot jump.

Trx440,

You need to change your profile, it says you’re from Illinois, not Kentucky.

I listened to what you guys had to say, and I stiffened my fronts shocks this afternoon. I moved it from notch 4, to notch 5. It lands great now. I did not think that adjusting them like that would help as much as it did. Thank you for all your help everyone.

P.S.- Forgive for my stupidity.
