Purging spark arrestor on rancher?
#1
How often do you rancher owners purge your spark arrestor? The owners manual says periodically but doesn't say exactally how periocialy.
Also could you explain the procedure a little better. The manual say to use a shop towel to create system backpressure by momentarilly blocking the exaust. When should i block the exahust and how long is momentarly?
Does this actually give you some performance back? It seems my rancher has lost a step. My valves probably need adjusted but i refuse to take it to my dealer. Long story. The short version is i hate the owners guts and refuse to line his pockets any further!!!!!
The valve job will wait until i get the shop manual and a set of feeler gauges.
thanx in advance for your help!!

I do it every couple of hundred miles. Take out the bolt and stick a rag up against the end of the pipe for 20 - 30 seconds. You will notice that some carbon will be dumped from the bolt hole.
I have never seen a noticable performance improvement from this.

I understand on your dealer. The local one here I will not let my machines go to. Not sure on the spark arrestor, I have not done mine. I guess its time to look into it. If you feel you have lost some power then I think the valve job will help out. Mine felt a ton better after I adjusted them.
