Chris, how you been?

Even $6,995 OTD would be outrageous. MSRP is $5,799. That is the same price as the Z400 (which is a lot more bike!), so I think dealers are going to have to discount the EX back to around the old price of $5,299 if they want to sell any of them at all. What dealership was it? There are only a few of the new EX's around, so I think maybe the dealer figures they can gouge the price right now while the supply is low.

The EX is a fine machine, but the Z has way more engine! The EX is the better trail machine, but the Z flies out in the open desert and the engine mods up better. The Z has a bunch of updates for 05, at no price increase. I don't see how Honda will ever be able to compete, without a substantial discount. I would take a good look at the Z!

Hey Recon! I'm still here. I'm really considering replacing my Mojave soon. I've ran the wheels off of the poor thing!

I rode my friends KFX400. The rear suspension kicks you everytime you hit some whoops. It's like it rebounds too fast.

His wife rides an older 400ex and it feels much better to me.

Plus I feel that Honda's quality is the best.........Although a Z/KFX would probly give me less problems than my Mojave gives me.

The quote was from the dealer in Victorville.....They had 3-4 05's. The headlights look freaky weird! They are molded into the front plastic kinda instead of the normal bug eyes.

I know it is unreasonably far for you to travel but call Ridersville Cycle in Berkeley Springs, WV. They could ship you one for less. You wouldn't pay taxes, no setup fee, and they always sell less than MSRP.

By the way, I have no affiliation with any dealerships. Just a repeat customer for this one due to the incredible deals. Can't say how there service department is as I have never had any of the 3 400exs in the shop. Knock on wood but so far nothing but oil changes, cleaning the air filter, changing brakes, bearings, chain and sprockets.

Ya WV is a little far..... Plus my communist state won't let me register a new vechicle that was bought out of state.

Keep in mind that the 05 Z400 is much more dialed in than the previous years. It also has some significant suspension upgrades. There really is no comparison between the Honda and Suzuki when they are sold at the same price. If I were a Honda dealer, I would be adding some upgrades to the ex if I wanted to sell for MSRP. Like some air flow and a pipe or something.

The rebound on the rear end is something that should be easy to tune out. The shock has both rebound and compression damping. So I wouldn't let that taint my decision.

If you don't need reverse, you should be able to get an 04 EX for next to nothing! HYR (Honda/Yamaha of Redlands) was quoting $1,200 off MSRP, for their left over 04's. Give them a call at 909-793-2833, ask for Ryan. Plus, they aren't a Suzuki dealer, so you can go in there and insist on a deal, by telling them you are real interested that Suzuki!
