Things to look for when buying 3 yr. old 400ex?
#1
I need something else for harescrambles racing, and I'm going to look at a few used 400ex's soon. Is there any weak spots on the frame to look for, any common failure points on the 400ex if I pick up a used 01 or 02 model? Just looking for ideas. Thanks.

I would just check for play in the bearings, if it is running smooth. A-arm scratches can tell somewhat what kind of wear it has unless it has been repainted. The ex's are pretty solid so there reall isn'e anything to look for weak spot wise.
I also wouldn't buy anything with engine work done to, that usually means it has been ran hard.
But evertything I stated above can be disregarded if you find one dirt cheap.

I would rather have Downs than a '99 400ex. That is the opening year and seem to have a lot of problems. There are so guys who disagree with that, but its what I have seen.
I don't know of any problems to look for other then the allready stated bearing check.

check the front wheels and axle for play. if there is any play plan on replacing the bearings. if it still has stock tires, its pretty easy to tell how much it has been used.
