On my recon the left side of the engine( when you are sitting on it) has a set of holes that looks like it is about the same place the ES is on the rancher and forman? Does anybody know what this is for?

I don't know if this helps, but when I was buying my wife's recon, they mentioned an external electronic shift option was available for the recon. They claimed it didn't work very well and was hard to set up. They also felt that it may become standard (internal?) in future models of the recon.
