recoil seal leak
#1
Does anyone have any experience with a recoil seal leak. I have a honda rancher es, and am having problems with my recoil seal leaking. The seal only leaks when I am pushing it really hard (ie. hauling heavy loads). If I ride it normally it doesnt leak at all. When it does leak it is not a great amount. It doesnt even leak enough to get the skid plate, or the garage floor messy. I have noticed that the oil level has gone down though, and have had to add about 1/2 a quart of oil over the last 250 miles. Should I do anything about this, or is it just an inconvenience? I am not very mechanicaly inclined so I dont really know if this is a serious problem or not. If its not a serious problem and all I have to do is keep an eye on the oil level and add accordingly, I can live with that, but if it might cause damage to the moter or some other problems I will get it fixed. Any advise would be a great help.

No leaks here, on either of my Ranchers! One thing to consider, is that it's better to have a little oil leaking OUT, than a little water leaking IN.
One place you will lose oil is through the crankcase vent. If you look in your airbox, it's that thing on the side that presses against the air filter. The oil usually gets sucked into the filter, and most people never notice it. But sometimes, you can lose a significant amount! I heard that the newer models have a baffle, that helps prevent this???
