Default 04' Honda Rancher/Weird Noise

Can anyone tell me what would make a noise that sounds like when a fan belt is going out on a car? You know that kind of squealing noise that progressivley gets louder as you go faster. The only thing that is weird about this noise, is that it will go away after a short while. The noise only lasts for about 4-5 seconds. I think it is the shaft making the noise but I am not sure. Has anyone had this problem before with their fourwheeler?

Thanks for any help you can suggest. It is greatly appreciated.

My Ranchers made a whine in 3rd gear and higher. It was pretty noticeable when they were new, but got less and less with time. Wasn't short lived though, like what you are describing.

If it is an 04, is it by any chance still on warranty? If so, let the dealer figure it out.

Never made this noise until just before it started to get below freezing. I think it might just be making that noise because of the cold. Ran good all summer, never had any problems, changed oil and filter often, need to change spark plug though. I think I have pinpointed where the noise is coming from. I started driving until I heard that noise, then I looked down at the driveshaft and I am pretty sure that is what's making the noise. Nothing else is loose or clogged so that is pretty much the only thing it could be. Also the noise stops after I ride around for maybe a couple of mins. I wonder if I try to spray wd40 on it while I am going just fast enough for the driveshaft to spin, and see if that makes it go away. If anyone can give me some sort of advice on what to do, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

I wouldn't spray wd40 just yet, I've heard that wd40 can sometimes reduce the life of seals and other rubber/silicon materials due to its petroleum makeup. Plus where the drive shaft comes out of the case I believe there's a seal. I'm not sure about this but if it were me I would try to find some lubercate that's safe for seals/rubber/silicon or make sure wd40 is safe then use it.

I decided to try it today and see if it made that noise since it was warmer today, about 30 above, and it didn't make that noise at all. It must just be hard on the drive shaft to turn when it is cold.

Thanks for the help.
