I was thinking of getting a set for my 96 Foreman400 I don't have a lift or any engine mods but would like more ground clearance. Can anyone recomend a fair priced set of wheels and give advice as to what size tires I should get? I don't want to lose to much power. I was thinking 26" or maybe 27" what do others here run???
Thanks in advance

About 18 months ago I replaced the stock 24x8x11 and 24x10x11 Dunlop KT962As om my '91 Bayou 300 4x4, and the 24x8x11 and 24x10x11 Goodyear Tracker MPs on my '96 Bayou 400 4x4 with 25x8x11 and 25x10x11 Goodyear Mudrunners.

Shortly after that my daughter and I rode in AHPA Poker Run at Cochranton, PA (the world's largest OHV poker run). We rode over 35 miles on Trail B passing many stuck 2WD, and 4WD, quads with ease.

Several weeks after Cochranton I rode the Bayou 400 at Salamanca Dice Run in Salamanca, NY where conditions were even muddier than at Cochranton. The Mudrunners performed flawlessly. I even pulled a stuck Polaris SP500 and Polaris Xplorer 325 out of the mud.

Then this past Spring my daughter and I rode the Bayous at the Quads-On-The-Rocks ride at the Tasker's Gap ORV area in the George Washington National Forest. This is some of the rockiest terrain I have ever seen, especially the trip up Tasker's Run. Once again the Mudrunners gave excellent traction and a stable ride.

Though the price on the Mudrunners have come down a little since I bought them (I paid $375 per set of four)they are still an expensive tire, but worth every penny.

If you elect to go with 26 or 27 inch tires you will have fender clearance problems that will require a lift kit, and perhaps other expensive modifications, to cure. Plus, any gain in ground clearance, which will be slight due to the fact that nominal tire size rarely matches the true physical tire size, will be offset by increased wear on your drivetrain.

You can gain a great deal of increased traction and all-around capability, a slight increase in ground clearance, and a large reduction in cost and hassle by going up one inch in diameter to the 25-inch Mudrunners and otherwise staying with your stock tire size so you may reuse your stock wheels.

That is what I did with my Bayous and I haven't regretted it once during the past 18 months. In fact, I couldn't be more pleased with the 25-inch Mudrunners. They are the perfect all-around tire with a smooth ride on hardpack, or even pavement, and awesome performance in the mud.

Get a set of Mudrunners, you will not be sorry!!!

I am ordering mud runners for my Rancher. The best prices so far that I have found are from www.treaddepot.com they are in Georgia. They had better prices than Highlifter. You won't be able to get 27 inch tires on you quad without a lift kit. I don't know about 26" tires.

My Rancher has 24 inch tires & the new mud runners will be 26 inch.

Rockymountain atv sells rims but not sure how their prices compare to other sites.
