Gore = No place to ride! He started taking federal lands, now he's moving in on private property!!

I would agree that this debate is going to be a bit different. Well...they all have their ups and downs.
But all this talk about invir-***** and bashing of anyone who wants to see the environment protected. I would not consider myself a "tree hugger" so to say. But do all you people want to live on a big round cement ball?
You worry about the banning of ATV's. I would bet just about anything that "Not in your lifetime"....... It won't happen.
You all have seen pictures and clips of places like Glamis. It's all garbage...cans everywhere...oil containers..you name it, it's sticking out of the sand...and most of the organized trail systems.(these people take that strongly)
It's the stuff like that causing the "*****" to be up in arms about atv's on public lands or even private lands for that matter. People need to be more informed and/or educated on keeping the riding areas a pleasant place to visit.
I love my ATV's as much as every one of you...But I would not get too heated. Something will work out I'm sure. Join a group, get involved somehow...But more importantly...If you see someone disrespecting the environment...Let them know....try to help.
As far as the Gun thing..I am highly opinionated on this......I feel that the average "Joe" has no needs for a weapon (I hardly use mine unless at the range..and I'm average I think)...keep your rifles...go hunting, whatever. Your going to have to come up with better reasons than the constitution for carrying a concealed pistol. A close friend was badly injured by a pistol that was not stored where it should have been. The gun thing is so touchy...there are many reasons (that I battle with) to justify a weapon, and many more not too.The irony of my argument is that I have a permit..But the gun has been in a box for 6 years
Anyways...enough of this political stuff for me...I sure wish we could somehow arganize a big ATV'ing picnic or something...It would be so much fun to meet everyone in person that we all communicate with in these forums. I bet we would have a ball.
BTW: does anyone fly or build RC planes and copters? I could use some hints on my latest heli.
Good day all.

I myself am also highly opinionated on the gun issues. I'll try to respect your opinion, provided you respect mine. You say that the average "Joe" does not NEED to conceal a hand gun. I may tend to agree with you on the NEED issue here. However, in order to legally carry a hand gun in most states, a concealled carry permit is required. In Washington, you can open carry anything you wish where the public can see it. The thing is, I tend to try to conceal most of the time, as a lot of people tend to get a little nervous when they see you walking through the grocery store, or at the gas station with a .44 mag on your side, or .357 mag under your shoulder. I conceal out of respect to others, so as to make sure I don't upset anyone. Do I NEED to do this? NO. I do so for the soul reason of not drawing attention to myself or causing problems for others.
You may ask why I need to carry at the grocery store, or the gas station. Well, I don't NEED to, and most of the time I don't. However, I do spend a lot of time on the road. I put over 38,000 miles on my car in the last year exactly. Over the last 3 years, I've had 4 different people pull a gun on me while in my car or my pickup. Now, I'm standing at 5'10" 230 lbs., with roughly 12 years in the martial arts for background, and several years weight lifting. I'm not exactly a "little" guy, and while I don't particularly care for these guns in my face, I'm still here to talk about it, even after 4 different occasions. Why, or how am I, well, thats another story for another time. My point is, after this has occured, I tend to carry with me all the time while traveling now, as I cannot "walk on water, eat bullets and sh_t icecream", as Clint Eastwood would say. It kind of evens the odds, so to speak, should something happen.
I also do a lot of hunting, and the .44 mag is great bear/cougar prevention, not to mention the other "drunks", or occasional pot growers you'll often find up in the hills out in the middle of nowhere. If any of you have ever been riding up in the mountains, miles from anywhere and run into something like this, you'll know for a fact that these hippies, growers, or whatever you call them will stop at nothing to protect their crops. I'm not about to die because of accidentally riding into someone's private stash. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it does happen.
If you would like to talk about my feelings towards women/children and guns, well I'm all for it. The NRA has a great program for kids and people learning about guns for the first time, the Eddie Eagle program. I believe that all women and children should be properly educated about the proper use and mechanisms of firearms, both handguns and long guns together.
The thing is, guns don't kill people. People kill people. Whether it be out of a fit of rage, or just plain not knowing accidental occurances, everybody should know how to handle a gun safely and effectively. The more you educate the common people, the less accidents there will be, it's a proven fact, no two ways about it.
I'm sorry to get a little off the subject here and the constitutional rights and all, but you are right, this is a touchy subject. I shouldn't have rambled so long, but I do have reasons for my beliefs, which I'm sure most average people have never had to deal with. Also, guns have been in my family as long as I can remember. My grandpa's grandpa, all the way down through to me. I was taught at a very early age, and put into hunter safety and gun classes at the earliest age the law allows. Just like atving, I'm not about to loose that right.
Anyway, better shut up now. That helicopter thing sounds pretty cool! I've seen a couple guys out here with those remote control airplane things, but never a helicopter, that's pretty neat.
Best of luck to ya, and hope everyone has a great weekend riding. I've got to re-wire the trailer, as the cows ate all the wiring off it last weekend. Damn things anyway.

Cowboy,
I'll ALWAYS respect your opinion.
Opinions are NEVER wrong.
You are entitled to have it and speak it as is everyone else in this country.
I will also have the option of disagreeing with your opinion. I mean, how often are you gonna get any group of people to completely agree on anything?
This thread started as a land-use issue and got side-tracked. I think people have been very considerate in reading thoughts and opinions without resorting to personal attacks (except on politicians! and they deserve it!). I think this is commendable.
And that's my opinion.

Trapperb1:
You're exactly right. And, I must say it is nice to see there are still a few people out there who can actually have a civil discussion amongst each other, without resorting to other such abusive acts, disrespecting one another and such. Maybe it's just me, but I'm glad to see that a few of us can actually agree, or disagree without there being problems involved, ya know. I see too many people around various parts of the forum putting everybody down about the most ridiculous things, which is completely uncalled for. You are right, opinions are just that, opinions, and everybody is entitled to their own, of which none of them are wrong.
On a side note, judging by your name, do you do much trapping? And if so, for what? You don't see too many people actually doing that anymore.
Take care!
Mike
