Problem with 03 Rubicon--Please Help!
#1
My 03 Rubicon has less than 200 miles. After 6 month warranty expired (of course, the proverbial time bomb), it quit starting with the electric start. It does start fine with the pull start, however. So, my thought was the obvious--The battery is dead. I took it into the dealer and they checked the battery and the charging system and it all checked out fine. They charged the battery and told me it would be fine. Two weeks later, same problem. If I ride for a while, it will sometimes successfully electric start. If the dealer is correct (Big IF), and the problem isn't the battery or charging system, what could it be? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I agree with you...its the battery.
Next time it wont start, put a voltmeter on the battery, and watch the voltage when pressing the starter. If it drops below, 10 volts, its no good. Im assuming the dealer did a load test, on the battery, and it should have showed up bad. Then while its running, check the volts accross the battery, and rev it up, to about 4000 rpm, you should see about 14 volts if the charging system is working right.
Heres a way to confirm the battery. Next time it wont spin over, jump start it. If the battery is bad, jumping will spin it over.
Just be careful if youre using the battery in a car or truck. The donor vehicle, needs to be NOT running when jump starting. Alternators can put out too high a voltage for quads, but if the motor is off...itll only be the 12.6 volts you want.
