300 ex suspension upgrades?
#1
Can you do the cheap mods like putting 400ex front and rear shocks on a 300ex? my friend just got into jumping that thing, now he needs some more cushion. I have ridden a 400ex, and i think the suspension would be perfect, does it fit with little to no modification/fabrication? what would need to be done for it to work? like grinding something down, getting longer a-arms etc...

-Oh, also would his 300 ex shocks fit on his 250 ex as a second upgrade? because his lil bro is a madman on that thing, and the suspension needs some help. they are both 2002 models

If you get 400ex a arms and shocks they will bolt right up to the 300ex but you will have to fab up a bracket for the top of the shocks because of the 400's have longer shocks. I have seen it done and it is simple. Plus you also get the larger a arms from the 400ex. I would do this if I could find a cheap 400 front end!

Theres brackets on ebay all the time for the shocks, they start at around ten dollars. Dont get the a-arms first, b/c you'll bottom out terribly b/c the shocks arent long enough. I cant help you w/ the 250ex though, but im sure it would work. 250R a-arms also work and I think there plus 3 up 1 on a 300. If the 450r arms work get them.

Thats for the brackets. A friend of mine bought these and they appear to be a very good product. As far as shocks go, there are tons of them on E-bay right now.

If you can find a 2001 Raptor rear shock,it will bolt right in, and you will have more travel, plus rebound and compression adjustment. The only thing you will need to do is get a longer hose to mount the resivior on a safe spot, which means the shock will lose the charge, and will need to be recharged. If it is well used, that would be a good time for a rebuild. I put one on my son's 300ex, much better control for the big jumps, he also has the 400ex a arms and shocks, for that you will also need the 400 ex tie rods, very cheap new, but there are lots of parts on ebay. The brake lines are fine, but some like to put 400ex brake lines on to be safe, but I have not seen a problem yet.
