250 ex problem
#1
I went riding yesterday at the beach with some friends and family. It was a great day to ride because there wasn't alot of people on the beach. Well after about 2hrs. of riding my 250 ex started to die on me. I was cruising down the beach at full speed in 5th gear and all of a sudden it shut down. Well I thought it was out of gas but it wasn't so I tried to start it up, I had to give it full throttle to get it to start. It ran for a little ways more then it shut down again, this continued to happen the rest of the day. So I just loaded it back up and we road the other quads. The 250 ex is a 2005 model and I have not brought it in for it's first service yet. So I thought I should bring it in tomorrow. Have any of you experienced this or would you know what might be causing the problem?

It has almost 30hrs on it. I bought it about 3 months ago. My son did turn it on it's side in the sand earlier in the day. But it ran ok for awhile after that. I checked to see if any sand got in the air box, but it looked clean. It really sounded and felt like it was starving for fuel. because I could get it started and drive it about 50yds and then it would die. I am pretty baffled by this. I mean I have two other Honda's that run real well. I think it is probably something real simple that I am overlooking. I will have to wait until tomorrow to see what the mechanic says. I will let you know.

this is gonna sound stupid but is it full of gas????? i had a similar prob with my raptor. I used to have dirt bikes and inside the gas tank u could tell u were getting low on fuel when u could see the hump inside the gas tank where the tank is shaped around the frame. well i get a quad and there is no hump so im riding and it would go for a short distance then shut off .....well i checked everything and finally put it on reserve just to be sure and it ran fine

Ok! I got the bike back. Well when my son turned the bike over on the beach he managed to get sand every where. The mechanic said that there was sand in the carb that was pluging up the jets. He showed me how to flush the bowl out if I should have that problem again. He was not sure how sand got sucked in there but it did. Oh well! lesson learned. It runs like new again. Now I need to find other places to ride witch will be hard to do on this island. Thanks for all the could advise guys.
