I did a search on this topic already and did not really find what I am looking for. I am looking for replacement tires for my Fathers Rancher. Unlike all the other threads I read about Rancher tires I do not want oversized or mud tires. I want a stock equivilent all around trail tire. Dirt Hooks are the stock tires. I read a lot of people like the Dirt Devil tires for all around trail tire, but I'm not sure by looking at it if it's a little too aggressive for what I'm looking for. Basically I want it to have a nice smooth ride like the stock tires deliver and maintain the good trail manors of the quad. Any suggestions? Please no "mud tire" suggestions, even if you do think they ride fine on the trail :-p

I just read through all the threads about Rancher tires again. If anyone has any info/experience on the following tires in stock oem size please reply and let me know how they work for different soil types and kids if terrain. Thanks.

I have not yet researched to even see if I can get these tires in stock OEM sizes yet.

 

My question would be : If he likes the ride from the "Hooks", why not just replace them with the same tire? I'm running Mud Hooks in front and Dirt Hooks in back on my 01 Rancher, they work fine and ride nice too.

 

Thats a good question. I would be open to that idea but I have read so many places that they are much more expensive and availability is much lower, so I haven't even bothered to look into the dirt hooks. That is something I'd be open to also. This is going to be for a Birthday present and I would like to keep the price down as much as possible.

However, I just looked up the dirthooks and See that they are Bridgestones and I do have a wholesale connection for Bridgestone/Firestone so these may be a possiblity for me. But, I also get a good dicsount at my local shop so I can get a decent deal regardless.

 

I like the combination of a non directional tire (a sport tire) in the rear and directional in the front
for example
25" all-trak in the rear
25" swamp fox in the front

 

If this was my quad I'd be with ya, but I don't think dad needs to slide around corners ;-) And for utility work like pullin logs a directional tire in the rear really helps hookup...
By the way I like that rancher you have.... sharp rig, I was checkin the pix out earlier!!!

The more I look around at options, I think you might have a great combo with the mud hooks in front and dirt hooks in rear. I can tell just by looking at them that they will have great handling characteristics and slow and high speeds on all different kinds of soil. Are the equivilent in the mud to the stockers? If they are then I may have made my decision.... Also, DrDoom, did you stay with the stock size? Thanks

 

Good questions. I bought them for a 1997 TRX300 2WD (I don't recall what the stock tire sizes were). I'm pretty sure they were just a tad larger than stock on THAT machine. The sizes I have are: Front - 23x8x11 MudHooks (MH01 tread pattern) and 25x12x9 DirtHooks (DH04 tread pattern) I don't ride much mud but I can compare them to the stockers on a 2005 Rancher 2wd. Mine climb and handle better. We took them both to The BadLands in Indiana and for the sand/dirt hills they have there, they just drove me up while the wife would get halfway and need to back down and get a flying start. I switched them over to the 2001 Rancher I have now and from what I can tell they're still going to be better than her stockers (I think she has GoodYears on hers) They do ride smooth and don't have much bumpsteer over rough ground. I run 4 psi and slime in all 4.
