Default XR250 VS. CRF230 ???

I am taking a friend tomorrow to by a XR250. He was looking at a CRF230 but the guy was out of them and had an '04' XR for sale. He told my friend that it was a better bike. I know nothing about them and was just wondering what the difference was between the two. I figured you guys could shed some light on the subject for me. Thanks in advance.

the xr250 is 1200$ more first of all. the xr has 10.6 inches of suspension travel front and rear, front disc brake, disc rear.. xr250 is 249cc air cooled. The crf230 is 223cc air cooled it has 9.5 inches of travel front, and 9 in the rear. rear brake is drum front brake is disc.

bolth bikes are nice, i would go with the crf personally, its a little slower but the 1200$ less is worth it

For sure go with the XR250 and an all around better design, better motor, frame, front and rear suspension, the list goes on.

The CRF230 is just an updated XR200 with a slightly bigger motor with electric start and has been around since the earth began to spin. The suspension is horrid for anyone over 150 Pounds with the rear bottoming on any huge bump.

Retail for the XR250 is about $1200 dollars more but worth it.

If you want to look at the difference

CrF230

XR 250

the CRF230's are crap in my opinion, they are so slow for a bike, have crappy suspension, not too much bottom end, and lots more. they are slower than a 400ex, my buddy who has the CRF230 raced my brother on his stock 400ex and the 400ex beat it, they raced right infront of my house which is a straight about 5-600 feet long and my brother on the 400 was about 2-3 bike lengths ahead of the CRF230

The XR250 would be my choice, 2 people i know, the one has the new CRF450 and the other one has a XR250 and both said that in the woods the XR250 would stick right with the CRF450 until they got an open straightaway, then the CRF450 would tear the 250 up

go with the XR250

This is not related to your question and we are getting really expensive for a 250 but my pick in the honda line up for a 250 4 stroke would be:

CRF250X

there ya go, i would definetly pick that one too, the CRF250X is a race bike, the CRF230 is moreless an updated XR200 like you said with a CRF name on it, in my opinion i think Honda should've called it an XR230 not a CRF230, the CRF's are associated as a Honda 4 stroke RACE bike

I don't know what honda was thinking when they put the CR in there and you are correct it should be XR230.

Myself I think the best deal and I am switching again is for a really good play bike that has XR400 performance and is priced right is the Kawasaki KDX200 which can be had for around $4000. I have had a couple of the KDX 200/220 series in the last few years and they are a blast soon to be put out of production here in the USA .

Kawi makes some of the best bikes out there, next to suzuki i'd rate Kawi as having the best bikes out
