Rancher 400 AT
#2
Check the toe-in on the front end. I have purchased two new atv's this year and both were terrible handling. The Foreman would not turn for anything even in two wheel drive. After checking the toe-in, I found them to be toed out 3 and 4 inches in the front! No wonder they would not turn. After adjust the toe-in to a quarter of inch in, it handles great. Turning radius is close to what it was on my old rancher 2wd. Check it out. I posted this several months ago and was amazed of other people on all brands of atv's that had found the same problem with theirs.

My 05 rancher AT was toed way out (9/16") this is not a mistake, honda does this on purpose. The service manual calls for 9/16" toe out.
I changed mine a little but I did not toe them in. 3-4 inches, sre you serious? I know that when your sitting on the bike and look down at the tires they look like there toed out 3-4" but c'mon man that's extreeeeeme!

Sound extreme I know, but its the honest truth. I have purchased a 03 2wd rancher, an 05 sportrax 250 and a new o4 Foreman, all of which were out between 3 and 4 inches. The manual calls for .25 toe out. I have a friend I ride with who bought a new Rubicon a couple of months ago and we decided to check it after the first trail ride cause it didnt turn good. It also was out a little more than 3 inches. Apparantly the alignment isnt checked as a pre-check at the dealers or the assembly plant. I know you may not believe me, but just take the time and check yours and see for yourself. If it doesnt turn, thats probably why.

I am going to set my Foreman straight on as well as you did. I installed a lift kit a couple of weekends ago and havent re-checked the toe-in yet. I am going to go 0 toe-in as well this time. It sure makes a difference when its right doesnt it.
