I have answered this question many times here but since it keeps coming up here goes again. First of all, to see if you even have any slop, try opening the throttle slowly to see if there is any free play before resistance is felt. I run a twist, but the thumb would still reveal any slop. If more than just the slightest bit of free play, your carb slide is not rising completely, thus reducing the fuel flow. If such is the case, with the bars straight ahead, slide the rubber boot back away from your throttle adjuster in order to access the adjuster lock ring. Turn the lock ring counter-clockwise to loosen it. Then, back the adjuster on the cable counterclockwise, AWAY from the throttle slightly (1/4 turn?). tighten the lock ring & start the engine. It should be at normal idle. If not, you need to turn the adjuster back IN slightly and re-test the idle. If normal, then the final test is done with the engine still running, by turning the bars to full lock in both directions. If RPMS do not increase, you have the right amount of slack. If they do increase you still have the cable too tight & need to turn the adjuster in slightly again. The cable should be adjusted so that it has just enough play to allow the bars to go full lock without opening the throttle, thus preventing any exciting surprises in hard turns.
