Rancher or AT
#1
Fairly new member here....anyway, I need to ask the forum for some help. I currently own an '03 rancher 350 4x4 ES with 130 miles and 28 hours and am trying to decide whether or not to upgrade to an 400AT w/o GPScape. I could purchase a brand new one from a local shop for $4999 OTD (www.procycleusa). I have a few reasons for considerring this upgrade. 1) I recently went to a riding park for the first time and had a BLAST. However, the fact that I have full-time 4x4 kept me from having the time of my life. I know that the warn 424 is out there but do not really want to explore that option. 2)I would really like to have an automatic tranny...how is the one on the AT. 3) upgrade in power from 329cc to 397cc. Are these upgrades worth it? Let's say that money is NOT factor...I really am looking for opinions based on the bikes rather than the cost. THANK YOU in advanced for helping me with this.

i have an 04 AT and have no complaints. It's definatly a plus to have selectable 4x4. Much easier steering, and better on gas. The auto tranny is smooth and flawless. I enjoy riding the trails better when i don't have to shift. You also still have the ES option on the AT. Don't waste the extra money on the GPScape. it has no mapping capabilities. your better off with a garmin e-trex vista, or something along those lines. $4999 OTD is a great price. overall, great bike you wouldn't be disappointed

From what I've read about the AT is pretty underpowered for a 400cc machine. I'm just curious how it would compare to the Rancher 350. There's almost 70cc difference between the two and I've heard people say the 350 has as much power as it does. I can't see how the auto tranny could be that much of a drain on the motor. I've been looking at both the these quads and it would be nice to have the auto plus the ES. However, for a little more money you can upgrade to the Foreman so I'm still doing some research.
