Well, the 1.5 would be plenty of pulling power for a rancher. If you bought a ****** block (wonderful invention), it actually doubles the pulling power and allows for angled pulls. It also comes with a mechanical brake, an option for 2.5 and 3.0 winches and one I highly recommend. I believe the water-tightness of the 1.5 and 2.5 should be equal. With that being said, if you are a heavy water/mud rider you may want to look at the 3.0 due to its reputation as being almost "water-proof" and its steel gears. The other two have plastic gears which some frown upon, but mine has held up exceptionally well for the last 2 years or so. The one main reason I would not order one (1.5) is Plasma Rope (http://www.rockstomper.com/catalog/recovery/ropes.htm ). The line size the 1.5 calls for 5/32 wire rope and the 2.5 calls for 3/16. As best to my knowledge, there is not a 5/32 plasma rope being offered. After going to plasma rope, I would never use wire rope again (no splinters, kinks, much stronger, and safer). To further confuse you, check out what Mile Marker and Ramsey offers. Mile Marker winches are much less expensive but feature all metal gears and great feedback so far.

Yeah, I'd call them to see how much it would be to have the rope done up and if they can do it. If so, I wouldn't hesitate to get the 1.5. The winch rope people are the most affordable, shippings quick, and they use the good stuff(Amsteel Blue). As far as the ****** block, Warn sells a nice one for $60 or so. If you want to save some $ like I did, check out Northern, you can pick one up from them for $13 or so. It's not as shiny or fancy but works well and I've been using it for about 4 years.
As far as spinning the 26" Bugs, when stock it would bog down some in gooey mud. After jetting, filter and pipe it spins them like stock.
