We have both a Warrior and 400EX. Reverse is nice to have, but not an absolute necessity if you are big enough to muscle the bike around when you get into a tight spot. Warriors make great trail quads, but the 400EX has WAY BETTER SUSPENSION! If I'm riding a new trail for the first time, and I don't know what to expect, I will take the Warrior (or a 4X4 Rancher if it looks like it will be really rough), because of the reverse. If I am farmiliar with the trail and there isn't anywhere I'll get into trouble, I'll take the 400EX and fly!

Reverse is great to have on trail riding it is not fun to have to get off and try to turn your quad around in a couple feet of mud. if you never have to back up it is not needed but I have never been out once that I did not use reverse. I loved that aspect of the Warrior when i had mine. Actually it is one of the reasons why i choose the Warrior over the 250r and the Banshee, yeah it was 1987 you could buy a 250r right out of the show room then.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm keeping my Warrior too so I think the 400 will be a good choice. I test rode one today and loved it. If I can just get enough money together. How much did ya'll haggle down to on the price?

Like stated earlier, crank it, give it gas and go, its alot more fun than reverse!

I ride lots of trails and hardly ever have to get off and pull my 400 around, only when the mud is too deep. Reverse would be nice but you wont mind not having it , i am usually going forward at a high rate of speed. The only problems i have had with my 400 are nothing that a can of WD40 cant fix. You cant kill a Honda.

up here crank and it give it gas will most likely have you hitting trees, up here trails are bike width wide in most places so whipping it around wouldn't work.

Are you talking single track type of riding? If so you should be taking your quad out there anyway, there is pleanty of quad trails out there. Where reverse is not needed!

Reverse? As long as you are not on a hill put your feet on the front tires and roll them backwards, that usually works. If not just get off and swing the front end around its not that heavy.

If you do mostly trail riding, and don't jump much but still like to go fast, and reverse is that big a deal to you take a look at a sport 400. Dont get me wrong I love my 400EX but if all I did was trail ride and diden't race or like to jump I might have bought a sport 400 4x4.

I had a 300EX and recently got a 400 and the only time I used reverse was backing out of the garage. I think it is not worth having.

I had a 300ex and i used the reverse a little but now that i have a 400ex i don't even miss it. When i am in a trail and need to turn around i just use my one leg and push off the ground. If that doesn't work then just get off your butt and pick it up and turn around. IT is something that is nice but not needed.
