have a 2000 rancher esp which doesn't shift when using the shift buttons. not a thing happens. i ride in water alot and haven't had any problems. i parked my machine after cleaning it one day and the next time i went to ride it wouldn't shift. pulled the shift motor apart, it was fine and tested as many wires as i could. couldn't find any broken wires. cleaned elec. junction connectors but found no water or debris in them. local dealer basically said tough luck because the coverage on it ran out last month( it's a 2000!!). so i'm bent out of shape about this and am looking for any kind of help i can get. i have no problem taking things apart and figuring them out, i can't figure this out. my brother has a 99 foreman with esp and his machine has gone everywhere mine has, even through water up to the gas tank, and hasn't had any problems(except for sucking up some water, lol). i ride my machine in waist deep water alot but, i don't think the water has anything to do with this problem because everything electronic is sealed. any kind of help would be appreciated very much. thanks - dana

you might do a search on the sensors on the motor. they can cause it not to shift. there have been several post about coating them with water proof grease before they mess up as a precaution. some have fixed the problem afterward by doing the same. search under sensor, motor esp shift and see what you come up with. good luck.....your dealer knows this, sounds like he is a jerk.

That also happened to a 99 es I know. Turned out to be a dead spot in the shifting patern and only happened once and a while. just rock it back and fourth once or twice it will shift.

if its not right

TAKE THE THING BACK! jump up and down....our dealer was kind enough to help even just out of warrenty.....

........the es is a pain in the .......

on our 450es is a big black box under the front fender.......that was causing us a multitude of problems.....it was replaced under warrenty (damn expensive too).....sorry

try the sensor in front of the motor down by the front drive shaft....

problem with those sealed units is ya can't fix em easy

.....and i though you could fix anything with a hammer......should use the hammer to hit ya dealer on the head....

sorry i have something against the es setups.....and automatics......i am from the old school
(my father has one, for his bad left leg)

Have a friend with a rancher that had the same thing happen. he took it back to dealer(still under warranty) and they replaced the shift sensor. Mechanic said they have had a lot of trouble with esp.
