Default New Recon owner questions

Hi all
I recently bought a 2001 Recon and have a few simple (I hope) questions

#1 the owners manual says to use SAE 80 gear oil in the rear end I could not
find this at the store. I use SAE 80w90 in my 4x4 would this be O.K to use ?

#2 Owners manual says to clean " engine oil centrifugal filter" and
"engine oil strainer screen" but gives no directions on how to do so
any info would be appreciated

#3 I need a headlight anybody have a part #

#4 Any grease fittings on this bike? if yes where?

thank you

Default New Recon owner questions

I can't help with the headlight number, but there are no grease fittings on the sled, the engine oil centrifical and screen filter require removing the front engine cover, the centrifical is the outer cover of the centrifical clutch and the screen is slid into the engine case held in by the engine cover. I would suggest using a hypoid gear oil in the diffy, many gear oils are not GL5 rated and are not suitable for the heated friction built up by the extreme pressure of the hypoid style of ring and pinion gear tooth contact area. I use the Bel-Ray oil myself, but Honda has a hypoid gear oil available. I use these because they are not a thick oil like 80-90, more like a synthetic blend, very easily poured for a 80w oil. Way easier on the machine when used in cooler weather.
