Default 99 foreman 400 clutch adj??

reading in the manual it shows a pocedure to adjust clutch play so i did it, turned screw till felt resistance then backed off 1/4 turn and tightened er down. K so heres the question, Shifting now seems to be alot stiffer and sometimes seems impossible to shift up. Does a guy back the screw off till shifting is where i want it to be? How far(looser) can a guy go to be safe? What should it feel like? What advantages are a stiffer shift if any? thanks all just picked up this machine for her to ride and needs to be an easier shift!! Thanks again!

they are a bit of a stiff shift. I'd think ya can loosen it a little. I don't know the answer to your Qs. Only a guess that too loose could strip or slip.

Seems to me there is an arrow and some writing on the case, right by the screw. But anyway, you can try experimenting and go a bit beyond 1/4 turn, but this adjustment is really only adjusting the free play in the unit. The clutch engagement is gonna be a bit abrupt, its kind of on or off...it isnt like a manual clutch where it can slip a bit , or where you can control the release speed.
