Hmm...
My old '87 250r had an FMF Fatty Pipe, Duncan Fatboy 2 Silencer, CT Reed Cage, Boyesen Reeds, Reed Spacer, .40 over Pro X, UNI Filter, and cr250 head gasket. It flew!
It was definatly faster then my old cammed/piped/ported/polished/filtered/jetted 400ex.
I haven't gotten the 400 back from its transformation to a 426, but I'd be willing to bet it would have given the old R a run for its money in a drag, if not beat it.
250rs are quick, don't get me wrong, but they aren't the fastest. There's plenty of atvs that could stomp one.

If you are going stock to stock, the 250r will NOT take a 450. I dragged my brothers LT250R('87) and embarrassed him bad enough he bought a YFZ also. My Yamaha was stock, he had a Pipe/filter and a freshly resleeved cylinder. We did switch riders with similar results, repeated a bunch of times.

The 250R is a pretty good ATV in MANY differen't situations!
Sand comes to mind as one place where you might have trouble keeping up with one.
I've seen the Canondales out at St. Anthony, and yes they are fast powerful ATVs, but I think there are more than a few 250Rs you'd have a problem "wrecking"
