just finished testing my rancher esp 00' because it won't shift. traced and tested everything, couldn't find one loose or broken wire. well, they say the electronic control device is bad. this really sucks too, because the coverage on my bike ran out last month and honda says too bad. i could use some help if anybody knows anyone at honda that could possibly help me with this problem. i would like to think honda would stand behind their product in an unusual situation like this one. later- dana

When you say "they" said it was the ECU that was bad then who is they? the dealer? I looked in my factory service manual & it doesn't mention any test procedure or any voltages to measure for the ECU. My suggestion is take the ECU off your machine & check it out & make sure none of the pins are broken. I would like to help more but this is the first ECU problem that has been on the forum that I can remember.

It does suck that Honda won't warrenty this! Do you know how much a new ECU unit cost?

the service manual said the ecu is bad if nothing else checks out. according to the manual, i've determined everything works (no loose wires, all sensors are ok), so the manual says the ecu must then be bad. i just got an e-mail from someone telling me that all rancher 2000 are now covered because they screwed something up with the male and female pins on the ecu. so i'm trying to verify this now. later -dana
