Neutral problem
I cannot get my bike into neutral when it is started and idleing. But when i stall it.. i can get it into neutral perfectly. Its like neutral is not even there when its started. Whats wrong with that? also, i used to be able to start it up when it was in 1st gear and hold the clutch down, but now i can only start it up in neutral. Is there a saftey switch on it? Im thinking about bringing it over to honda but it would be less of a hassle if i can fix it myself. I have a 2001 400ex.

You adjust the clutch by turning the threaded part where the cable connects to the lever. If you turn it out, the cable will get tighter (and will disengage the clutch more when you pull it). Just be sure not to tighten the cable too much or it will pull on the clutch continuously when you're riding. You can tell by wiggling the lever to see how much it moves without pulling the cable.
Another way to check is to see how far you need to let it out to start moving. Usually it's about 1/2 way out.
There's a switch near the cable that allows you to start in gear. It's the clicking sound you hear when you pull in the clutch. I'm not sure adjusting the cable will fix that since the lever presses right against it but that's where you need to look.
