any tips for changing front bearings?

One good tip is if you're going to change the bearings then change out the inner and outer.
Unless you ran them dry, wet, etc, all they really need is a cleaning and repacking. You can buy a tapered bearing greaser at the auto supply stores. Clamp the bearing in this plastic cone thing and pump in the grease using a greese gun, forces grease into the rollers to ensure coverage.
Also always replace the seals(correctly). Probably #1 cause of bearing failure.
