Recon Skid Plate
#2
I wanted to keep the bike light and simple, so I went with a Maier plastic skid under the chassis. Plastic is way stronger than you might think (they make guns out of plastic these days!), and plastic is slick and doesn't hang up on rocks like aluminum does.
I kept the stocker in back, because the swingarm skids I looked at reduced ground clearance to much. I'm always having to bang the thing out though. Guess I should replace it soon.

Thanks for the info. I am buying the Recon tomorrow and want to get skid plates on it soon. The Recon is a new leftover 04. Price is $2483 otd. I can get an 05 for $400 more. May change my mind when I get to Chattanooga. I have a 91 300FW. The recon is for the wife and son to play with.

The Recon got some changes for 05. As I recall, improved suspension and ergonomics. You need to decide if that is worth an extra $400 to you. Those prices would be excellent around here! My personal advice is to avoid the ES model, and keep it simple.
