Any prospective buyers out there, take a lesson and just shift with your foot!

Mine has over 8300 kms and I have not had a bit of trouble with the ES.
I reccommend it to everyone who asks.

I have two Honda recon es models and even though I work for Honda I still have a few problems with the ES. Now Please listen !!!!! the frist thing to check is the fuse under the seat, if the fuse is ok the at the frond of the unit by the steering post is the ECU unit. Disconnect the ECU and clean the connections both mail and female with a good electronic cleaner and let it dry, then use a good dialelectric grease to keep the connection from getting dirty again, that should solve any problem with the ES shifting on any of the Honda ES quads. I drive all the atvs that we have and I still like the ES quads the best (( just my opinion )) and not to start a fight with the standard shift people.
Please do NOT adjust the clutch unless it is slipping cause it has nothing to do with the ES shifting pattern of the unit

I find that most people dont do the clutch adjustment, very often or at all, and usually when theres an intermitent problem that comes and goes, or seems to be temperature related....its almost always the cure.
As I said, try the simple things first...its free, and doesnt require any special tools or knowledge. If that doesnt fix it, there are other steps which can be taken.

On the rancher and foreman the procedure is the same, ....im not positive about the recon, and someone correct me if im wrong, but on the forward side of the motor, youll see a slotted screw, and a nut. Loosen the nut, about 2 turns, but dont take it off. With a screw driver, turn the slotted screw, CCW, until you feel resistance....go back 1/4 turn, CW, and hold the screw stationary, while you snug up the nut. Done.

I have had a 2001 rancehr 350 ES, A 2004 rancher AT (with the ES) a 2006 Rubicon (with the ES) and presently own a 2006 Rancher 350ES and have had ZERO problems with any of the electronic shift machines.
I like the electronic shift best, better than the AT/Auto or the Rubicon Auto because I like to shift - these machines had the best of both worlds with the ES and automatic.
I have always liked foot shift as well however the LED display is awesome. In addition I have a plow and in the winter have giant winter boots, the fwd/reverse over and over with a foot shift is no fun shifting w/your foot.
I have had many many foot shifted machines and they are good - we have a 2004 trx90 foot shift - it's great. Although, having owned 4 ES machines I have to say the ES is excellent! and will do it again.

I have not owned an ES equipped quad, but I am sure that there are some (very few) out there that do have an occasional problem. But I am willing to bet it is only 5% (or less) of all ES systems out there that have a problem.

My Honda 250TRX TE (Eleictric shift) is stuck in 5th. The 1st gear light blinks. Cannot manual shift it into neutral. Dealer says they have to take the engine / trans off of the bike and crack open the trans case to diagnose. $450 + parts / lookin at $1000 repair! Help. Any advise that is given to me an works, I will send you a $50 gift card. Seriously.
