yep, 2 strokes may come back. evenrude has the new direct injection 2 stroke that burns cleaner than a 4 stroke outboard. and honda toyed with this idea-

And I also read where some still say the KX and CR 500R's arent the king of the hill... lol... please go ride one, but be carefull!

thats true my 03 dale had a x440s/speed map and reved better than my banshee. and banshee had alot more horsepower but the dale sure got up out the hole alot better not spinning everywhere. and i also agree on the sand if i was building a hillshooter i would drop in a banshee motor with 10 mill crank and some cheetah cylinders in a yfz450 chassis and drag pipes and not to many would touch me in the sand but for a perfect all around duner i enjoy my yfz450 alot more, and i dont have to go back for fuel near as often as when i had my banshee longer rides = more fun for me. they all have there purpose and i hope to one day get my banshee powered yfz450 duner finished cause i know i will have fun on that to, and turn a few heads as well.

i think hes talking about the cannondale and in the dirt it would hook up and get it off the line i know i have had both, as soon as the 500 gets rolling its bye bye cannondale. the dale hooks up better than any thing i have ever rode.

It is sad to say but the day of main stream 2-stroke production is quickly coming to an end for many reasons.
1. New epa regs. make it nearly imposible for any 2-stroke engine in a motercycle or atv even with something like direct injection to pass the new regs. for much longer. There will a few bikes designated as "competition bikes" that will not have to meet as tight of regs. that will be 2-strokes for a few more years but they will also end
2. For all the companies to find and make new tech. to meet all the new regs. millions of dollors in R&D will have to be spent, that is money that could and probbaly be spent on furthuring the tech in 4-strokes, so why would manufactures spend money on something that will end anyways (2-strokes) when they could spend their money on making EFI and lighter materials for 4-strokes that is going to be the future of all power sports.
The fact stands that a 2-stroke makes as much emissions as about 12 modern cars so of course someone is giong to get pissed at that.
Here is what the epa says: the rules "encourage manufacturers of these vehicles to switch from two-stroke engines to cleaner four-stroke engines, beginning in 2006" for trail machines.
Don't think that in any way am I for the extinction of 2-strokes but the production of 2-stroke motercycles and atvs are going to end within the next 5 to mabey 10 years but I dought it will last that long.
