Default Honda TRX250 vs. Polaris Phoenix

We wondering what everyone thought about the TRX250 vs. The Phoenix. My son rode a 90cc Predator and quickly outgrew it. We ride alot in the sand and were wondering what bike would work best. Secondly I know the phoenix is automatic and I was wondering about the TRX250? Automatic or not ? Any input would be righteous. Do you mean the 250EX? That model requires you to shift gears with your foot, but there is no manual clutch to master. It is not a CVT like the Phoenix. The 250ex will be more powerful and quicker all the way around. It has been around for a while and has proven reliability. If your child is younger/smaller, then the Phoenix may be a better fit due to features. On the other hand, the 250EX will hold his attention longer before he wants more power. Oh, one more thing, the '06 250EX actually has a manual clutch but can be shifted with or without using the lever.

I was going to get my daughter a Phoenix until I did some reading on the forums. A lot of unhappy Phoenix owners. I would and will probably be going with the 250 ex. I have to check out Suzuki's 250. My daughter outgrew her Predator 90 also. The Phoenix is made in Twain(spelling) and has been unreliable. If one of the major manufactures would put the time and effort into entry level youth quads they would have a loyal following. Hope this helps

250EX, no doubt. Those things are freaking tanks. They will run forever with proper maintainence.

Can somebody tell me what a "sport clutch" is or how it operates?

Basically the 06 250EX is a 5 speed with automatic clutch. The "SportClutch" means that you can shift with the clutch but you don't have to. It's basically tailored to help riders who don't know how to work a clutch learn how to (without ever stalling).

I've read a lot of bad things about the Pheniox. Reliability is an issue with me and the Pheniox just doesn't cut it. Look into the 250ex or even the Z250. I think the Z250 is a little more sporty than the 250ex. Both quads would be great for a beginner.

the 250EX is the exact oppostie of a tank....lol it only weighs 349 pounds... is it peppy, you can pull wheelies with ease...

it is the same physical size as the Phoenix, but isn't front end heavy like the Phoenix, it has better suspension, better power, better handling, and nothing beats Honda's reliability... there is no comparison between the two

Good post... If you look at atvconnections home page, they have a review page. Read the review about the Pheniox. It sounds like a peice of junk lol. It doesnt have enough power to make it up big hills. Suspension isn't all that great. Go with the 250ex. You won't be sorry.

By tank I think ajd means they are very reliable, which is true. I just got a look at the '06 version 250EX-very nice looking quad. About the only thing I would want to change out on it are the baloon rear tires.
