Default keeping my 400 ex cool??

i was up at cinder hills in arizona a month or so ago and the engine was getting extremely hot. i have a 2005 400ex, it has a stock oil cooler. but i was wondering if anyone had info on a larger oil cooler or some ideas on how to keep the engine cooler?

thanks,
Jared

Did you rejet for the higher altitude at Cinders??? If you got it to lean, that might contribute to the problem.

Being air cooled, there isn't a whole lot you can do.

There are some after market oil coolers out there, but to be honest I don't know that it would make much difference. However for a 400ex it is crucial to have it jetted properly. I always run mine just a little rich. Also on those hot days (even for liquid cooled machines) keep it moving. The air going over the engine is very important. Shrouds may help a little, but again only when the machine is moving.

I'm not sure - but I think i've seen coolers w/ a fan attatched ??? - and I know someone makes bigger coolers - I use a pingreys brand oversized oil tank on mine - it holds an extra quart or so - the nice thing about the one they make is it has like 7-8 one inch tubes thru it from front to back - to increase surface size and the air can flow thru it - - with that and air shrouds and keeping my cooler clean (if they're clogged w/ dirt they don't work) mine hasn't overheated yet and it's FAR from stock - -good luck

does anyone have a way to get ahold of mickey at fst? i've been trying to find anything on four stoke tech. but can't get anything to actually find a way to contact them.

as for rejetting. from the pheonix area. how many jets up or down in size should i go. i beleive the pheonix area is around 1000 feet. and cinders is about 7 to 8 thousand feet..

so scoops, rejetting, and find a way to get ahold of mickey for a possibly larger oil cooler?

thank you guys
jared
