Anyone ever race a 125 bike with a 400ex? What were the results and by how much?

Thanks

Not in my experience. I've raced YZ 125, 250, and 426, and CR 80, 125, 250, and 500. I got my tail whipped by all except for the CR80. The 125's beat me by a couple bike lengths. The 250's flat stomped me, and the big bore's were about the same. The '01 CR250 scares me, if they put that motor in a racing quad chassis, all I can say is look out.

About 2 yrs ago when I first got my 400EX it was bone stock and there was another stock 400EX there also was a 96 CR 125 with an FMF pipe and a few other minor mods. Everyone who rode the 400EX's was able to beat the CR125 and quite easily from what I saw. Also one of the guys there was just above novice level and he could even beat the CR. I would rate the guy on the CR as about a "C" level rider for our area. So basically a better rider on a CR125 was beat by a novice on a 400EX in a distance of just over 250'.

Man i have a 84 cr125 and cant even beat a blaster!! Its tied for about 4 seconds when both are in 6th gear and then the blaster usually pulls away!! I have no topend power what so ever. I can give it a 1/8 of the gas then floor it and it just revs and nothing happens. I know its old but i thought i would be able to beat the blaster. I know this isnt a dirtbike forum but a Honda forum but i have a honda!! so could someone tell me why that is?? I know that i probbly need new rings but i couldnt belive it when i raced him!! I can beat him until he hits 4 then i will pull up and when we are both in 6th i am topped out but he juts keeps on pulling away he just pulls away. I dont see how a 125 could beat a 400ex. I thought i might need a new clutch but not sure??

Yes, I think it is time for a new top end. When was the last time it was rebuilt. A good way to see if the clutch is shot is if it revs up alot and doesnt really spin the tires in low gear.

Obviously a machine this old is going to need some tender loving care to keep it running strong.

It was rebuilt about a year ago. I also need to find how much it was bored over. Yes i can rev it up in first and drop the clutch and it wont spin sometimes and then it will grab and take off like crazy!! So i guess i will invest in a new clutch and topend. Thanks

The 400 can't quite beat a '87 RM 125, but it's a fairly close race.

There's no way a 400 will beat a YZ 125. Unless the guy on the yz can't shift! The 400'll have less of a chance on an MX track. Sorry, but a modern yz makes a few more hp than a stock bore 400ex. And it weighs half as much.
