01 rubicon trans problems

Default 01 rubicon trans problems

(first time poster)2001 honda foreman rubicon D-1 D-2 ESPautomatic trans started squiling and then locked up, engine will still run but in a forward gear it just boggs it off due to the trans being locked up you can put it in N and it will roll around fine but locs in gear wheather running or not, anybody got any Ideals?

Sounds the same as the one here, It would not even rev out in neutral, Have it all apart now,Just got the hondamatic unit removed today, hoping this is the problem. Wish it could of been something else though, after you see the price on these 900~~1300 .

Is it the same in reverse?

doesnt sound good, have you ruled out the clutch and sub transmission?

Sounds like the Hondamatic unit might have failed. You should also have a Honda dealer, or somebody with a high pressure oil gauge and the proper fittings check the oil pressure...before you (or somebody else) tears into it. The oil pump relief valve sticking was a known issue with Rubicons, especially 01's. The pump is inside the cases as is your Hondamatic unit. It would suck to have to tear it apart twice.
