differential and gear oil choices?

Default differential and gear oil choices?

hello
i need to change the differential and gear oil in my 03 rancher es. do i have to use the honda kind or can i use something, say, that NAPA sells.

You should be fine with any "hypoid gear oil"...80-90 weight is recommended.

i run valvoline for everything in the bike, including the diff which is hypoid too, has over 2k on with this oil, to be honest i would only change it every 4k i changed it every 1k, and it looks brand new everytime i take it out

Oils are no place to go cheap. The machine takes so little of it, anybody who can afford a gallon of gas can afford the finest lubricants available (Ester Synthetics!). I run Maxima 100% Synthetic 75W-90 (GL5) in the diffs, and 100% Synthetic Maxima Extra in the engine.
