Need help for Rincon
#1
Im not a honda guy so I was hoping I could get some help here. I am looking at a used 2003 Honda Rincon 650 and was wondering if there was any problems with these quads. Its pretty clean, good condition, i just didnt know if these models had any cronic or common problems. Also anybody that has one, I would like to know what you think about it and how it performs. Thanks

They are just like the rest of the hondas...very reliable.
Its not gonna be a workhorse, its more of a trail riding quad. The tranny isnt meant for pulling heavy loads, and some complain about the weak engine braking for coming down steep hills.
If you want a good handling, smooth running, very nice comfortable ride...then you found it.

With the 03 and 04 they had a recall on the waterpumps if im not mistaken. I have an 05 and if i bought another bike today it would be an 06 680
Rubicon500yellow is right about the engine braking but the rear brakes are good enough to come to a dead stop if you are creeping down a hill.

How much are they asking? The reason I ask is that there are still some new 05's still out there that dealers are willing to make great deals on, I got my 05 for 6200+sales tax.
Pretty much everything said is accurate, very, very comfortable ride, handles well.
Only a couple of "quirks" that I have found. Cold blooded, takes a while to warm up......on a couple of occasions it cut out on me but its due to have its first service so probably a very minor adjustment and come to think of it, hasn't happened since the first couple of rides.
There is a lot of power untapped in that engine, a simple carb spring adjustment and a new end cap on the exhaust will wake it up quite a bit.
Engine braking only goes down to about 10 MPH but the brakes work great so hasn't been a real problem.
I wouldn't suggest it for work, it's not exactly desgined to be a workhorse, have to get an adaptor just to hook up a trailer and there is virtually no storage.
I personally haven't ridden through any mud to speak of so no clue how it performs there but my buddy drove it through the river (arghhh) and I thought for sure he was gonna swamp it but hit the gass and it floated across, scared the crap out of me though.

As far as I know the 03 had two possible issues. The water pump had a problem with a weep hose I believe. The new style should have a bend on the hose. I think the old one was straight. There was also a problem with some transmission "o" rings. Honda switched to a different material to correct the problem. The one you are looking at may have these problems or they may have been corrected.
