TRX250EX

MaddMatt, you have no clue what your talking about, i have posted many times in threads refering to the speed of the 250ex.. and i have argued my peace.. i will not do so again.....
Everyone says the Stock speed for the 250ex is around 52-55... and You must consider the variables such as:
Rider Weight, and hieght
Tire Pressure and Tire Type and Wear
The carb and altitude adjuster.
What the idle speed is set at.
Type of Gas, and Oil.
Airfilter.
Exhaust, spark arrester.
And of course your TERRAIN.
On pavement you can get it way faster then Dirt.
Now in my Thread i stated
" i have had it up to 55 on flat hard dirt.. even faster on pavement (illegal here ) lol i have a trail tech computer that reads my MPH and etc."
Why is that too hard to believe when everyone seems to say the stock speed is around 52??
And if YOU Can't get Your Uncles machines up to Par.. then maybe theres something wrong with them.. maintenance wise... and I take good care of mine....
And Don't turn this into another ARGUMENT THREAD, I have seen tons of them based on this!
The Speedometer is approx 98% correct.. tested against my friends Polaris with his built in speedo and his hand held GPS that can determine speed.
Peace Out.
PS:
Ridetadie....
The 250ex is a great machine..but don't limit yourself... consider getting the 400ex.
The 300ex isn't worth the extra $1000 then the 250ex. I raced a stock 300ex.. He beat me in the wholeshot cause of the clutch.... but i stayed about 4 quadlenghts behind him... his top speed was prob around 62 or so.. Plus the 300ex has chain and sprockets that will wear and break.... so if your gonna go in for a chain/sprocket quad.. get the 400ex . I would recommend the new 450r.. but darn it they need a reverse.. lol. My bud has a new 05 450r. he loves it.. except when he has to get off and drag it back and out of the mud then we laugh casue we got reverse.. lol...Plus on the trails.. i keep up with him, if i am not infront of him.. cause the trails we ride are rocky, rutty, and can get cramped.

I have AC Racing Nerfbars and AC racing Front Bumper, and AC Racing Chasis Skid Plate.
I got everything direct from www.motosport.com its a big powersports warehouse out of California.
The nerfs i think were about $129, the skid was about $89, and the bumper was like $69.
They werent very easy to mount.. they are a tad bit cheap.. but they are great bars.....
It took me about an hour to mount... you have to drill a hole in each foot peg... and if you have some vice grips and other clamps that will help a bunch too....
Hope that helps...

Buying a USED 250ex??
Dude... First its a HONDA...
if it was taken care of, oil changes, air filter changes, and it wasnt ridden like a bull or trashed, then it is worth it.
They have ben proven reliable, now with this new 06 with the sport clutch, that still has to prove its reliability! But the original engine and all the 05 and under 250ex have been proven reliable time and time again.
Second... when buying one used, check to see what needs repaired, or replaced. Like tires, shocks, seat, handlebars.
Those are nothing big, but still, if ur buying used, you will have to spend a lil more money and time to get them fixed/replaced.
But i would say buying a used honda 25oex, should be a satisffactory factor of about 90%, depending all on how the previous owner took care of it and rode it.
Hope this helps...

Oh one more thing....
its the high top end performance quads like the 450r and YFZ450 that you really really need to watch when buying used... because more then likely.. they have been beat to heck....
My bro bought a used 02 Raptor 660r.... it needed new tires.. old ones were bald, it also looked like the a-arms were never greased, and needed new brakes/chain/sprockets, and the handlebars were slightly bent.
Now the machine runs good.. i would say about 94% of what it did brand new..
but i still dont trust it going on long trips by myself....
Now my 250ex.. i will take anywhere by myself cause i trust it to get me back home..not strand me out in the mid of nowhere...
The local dealer mechanic also said it looked like the engine gaskets or something were a bit worn and the machine smokes a bit too much....
i am not really a mechanic myself, i can do oil changes, air filter changes, spark plug, and a few other things, but i cant tare down an engine and tell u what does what and etc...
But with the 250ex u dont have to worry bout greasing the a-arms, its sealed, ad u dont have to worry bout chain/sprockets cause its shaft driven..
now shaft driven is more reliable, but not as HIGH performance as the chain....
u can jump it.. but i wouldnt go more then 5-6 feet with it... its more of a trail machine.
When me and my bro ride at spiderlake trails...onthe tricky tight stuff.... i am always in front of him and his raptor..cause the 25oex floats and is real great on trails...
my bro even rode it and he told me he loved it in that stuff...
but of course in the open, his 660r blows past mine...
Thanks

Everyone needs to be reminded that the new 2006 250EX with the sport clutch is NOT made for shifting without using the clutch.
The actuating arm that releases the clutch is not controled by the shifter like it was on the older 250EX.
Only the clutch cable does that on the 2006.

WOW are you sure about that????
Thats interesting.... from what i read.. it could be riden either way!?
A rider could use the clutch for a more sportier ride if he/she felt like it but the autoclutch would till handle the disengagement if the manual clutch wasn't used...
Thats how i undertood it..
maybe you are right.. it dont really matter.. i have an 04, and l love mine,, but soon i will get the 450r, if those Honda Genuises ever put a Reverse on the dam thing, otherwise i will get the 400ex.
Plus the kid that replied furhter above was asking about buying an older used 250ex.. so the new 06 sportclutch wouldnt relay be important.. the only reason i brought it up was when i was examining reliability issues... we know the past 250ex are reliable, but since the 06 is different we dont have much to go on there.
Thanks for the info tho dude.. something to look into really...

Honda has a big issue with a certain magazine company right now over the very issue of shifting without using the clutch.
I personally have seen this in several magazines from at least 2 different publishing companies.
As soon as the articles and tests started being printed, Honda sent notice to all Honda dealers that these tests were totally false in regards to the information about shifting without using the clutch and to warn customers of the issue when they purchase it.
This bulletin was also sent to all previous owners of 2006 models according to the letter.
