Help!!! I was duck hunting and I was driving my 01 Rancher 350 4x4 in some pretty deep water and it stalled out. I drained the oil and now I need some advice on what to do next. The oil had a lot of water in it, but the air filter was completely dry.

 

flush the oil a few times.. fill it start it drain it

if the air filter was dry then your doin ok

 

You might want to change the differential fluids, if you think it got in there.
The motor is sealed up pretty good, any idea how the water came in?

 

Might be the crank breather check and see if the filter is wet

 

the water came in through the exhaust when my rancher stalled out in deep water. I already checked the differential and it is fine, and the brakes are also fine. What do I need to flush the crankcase with? I have been told to use kerosene, but i don't know.

 

Water coming in the exhaust isnt gonna make it to the crankcase, unless it sat in the cylinder a long time. The rings should do a good job of keeping it out.
If you havent spun the motor over, then remove the spark plug before you do. If theres still water in the cylinder, it could hydralic lock. Just pull out the plug, and spin the motor, to expell any leftover water. You can put a couple of drops of two stroke oil down the spark plug hole. This will help to restore the lube on the rings, raise compression and coat any rust which could have gotten started. The reason i use two stroke oil...is it burns completely with out leaving ash. Spin it a few more times. then put the spark plug back in.
Id just use some of the autozone old car oil. Its very cheap, .79 a quart, and is the proper lube....SG, non moly oil, Run it for awhile, until the motor gets hot, and then change it out. If its a low humidity day, leave the dipstick out and drain plug out, until the motor is air temperature, most of the water vapor should be gone by this point. Put new oil in, and filter if it has one, and run it some more.
If the oil looks milky, or light brown, or foamy...then theres still water in there. But one hot oil change, and an air dry usually will do it.

 

Check your seal behind the pull start.........clean out the pull start real good......if that seal is bad it would let water in your engine.

 

Done the same thing to my foreman.Used the winch hooked to a big tree and stood it on it's end for about 15 minutes.Set it back down,then drained the carb bowl.I was about 6 miles from camp,so I had to drive it out.Pulled the choke on and fired it up.You would not believe the water that blew out the exhaust.I drove it back to camp with the choke on full.It was purring like a kitten when I got to camp.I had to change the oil 4 times before it cleared up.

That was at 5600 km.It now has 8800 km.
