424 for my Rancher
#1
I just bought a 04 Rancher 4x4 with the lift kit, ITP wheels and 589 mud and snow tires. Rides good but feels like a tractor, I guess because of the full time 4x4. With the warn 424 kit will that help? Also can I do it myself
Thanks

I just got through installing the Warn 424 on my 05 Rancher today. All I can say is the fun factor just tripled! Just a little hit on the throttle will throw the rear end all the way around with just a little whip of the steering. The 424 works great, goes in and out instantly. I'm getting ready to upload some pictures of my rig and ranchers along with one showing where I decided to mount the 2WD/4WD control ****. I didn't want to drill holes in my exterior plastic and found an excellent place to mount it, for me anyway. It took me about 3 1/2 hours to complete the install, mostly due to I tore the entire machine apart so that I could figure out exactly where I wanted to route the cable. When I do my other Rancher, it should take more than 1 1/2 hours tops since I now know I don't need to remove any extra pieces to locate the cable where I want it. The directions are very straight forward and if you follow them in order, you can't go wrong.

the tires are what make it ride like a tractor, not the 4x4. the 589's are like 6 ply right? that's what makes it ride rough. They dont flex at all.
HOWEVER, the 424 is still a very good investment, and you will notice a difference in how it handles. You can pin it going around corners and kick the rear end out a little. It's quite fun!!! and with those tires, putting it in 2wd in some mud and dropping the throttle will really **** the guy off behind you, especially if he's too close....
